Alexander Shorokhoff Babylonian I
A flight of fancy, a trip to the cosmos or a celestial harbinger of fortune and protection – no matter how you see Alexander Shorokhoff’s Babylonian Collection it is a treat for the senses.
The timepiece features a veritable galaxy of celestial objects and zodiacal signs surrounding a meticulously hand-engraved movement. The centre of the movement, visible through the open centre of the dial, is finished with a special decorative sunburst pattern. Other design details such as incoming wave symbols – which indicate the rivers Euphrates and Tigris – lie above the bronzed centre and mark the earth’s horizontal axis. The juxtaposed sun and moon elements augment the harmonious image of this constellation. To give the “galaxy” additional relevance, horoscope signs are placed on a band of shimmering blue mother-of-pearl which encapsulates the rich, red centre and adds a touch of mysticism to the design.
But not all is design and metaphor, functionality and legibility is ensured by the contrast of the dark blue outer ring which is set 1.5mm lower in the frame and peppered with tiny golden stars to accentuate the silver hour/minute markers. The elegantly formed hands are presented in a deep midnight blue finish to tie the design together in a balanced and uniform manner.
Babylonian is designed to keep you interested in time for millennia.
